Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - In front 12,911 fans, the Round Rock Express (49-39) dropped to the Omaha Storm Chasers (39-48) 3-0 in the series opener on the Fourth of July.
The Storm Chasers pitching staff was stifling Thursday night as starter Kelvin Herrera tossed 3.1 hitless frames before exiting the game with one out in the fourth. The right-hander racked up seven strikeouts but was replaced by southpaw Chris Dwyer who continued the no-hitter into the fifth inning until shortstop Leury Garcia singled with two outs.
The best scoring opportunity for the E-Train came in the fourth inning. Round Rock was able to load the bases with two outs via three walks but the threat ended when Dwyer forced third baseman Mike Olt to fly out which brought the inning to a close.
Express starter Evan Meek was solid, allowing just three runs (two earned) over 5.1 innings of work but left with a three-run deficit and was eventually saddled with the loss.
The Round Rock bullpen took over in the sixth as right-handers Ben Rowen and Cory Burns combined to hold the Storm Chasers scoreless over the final 3.2 innings but the offense was never able to spark. With his 2.2 scoreless innings, Rowen extended his scoreless streak to 27.2 frames between Double-A Frisco and the Express.
Dwyer (6-6) picked up the win after closing out the final 5.2 innings, allowing just five hits and walking one. As a team, Round Rock finished the night 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, leaving nine runners on base.
The Express continues its four-game series against the Storm Chasers Friday night at Dell Diamond with a 7:05 p.m. start. Right-hander Scott Richmond (2-2, 6.80 ERA) will be handed the ball for Round Rock to be opposed by Omaha starter Danny Duffy (2-0, 5.66 ERA). Dell Diamond will light up the Central Texas sky after the game with Budweiser Friday Fireworks. For more information on the Express, visit www.RoundRockExpress.com or call (512) 255-2255.
