Aces Take 9-2 Win over Sky Sox
July 4, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
Reno, Nev. - The Aces pulled away late Thursday night, highlighted by a 3-run sixth and ninth innings, as they took a 9-2 victory over the Sky Sox on the 4th of July.
Early on, the Aces and Sky Sox went back and forth in the run column. Infielder Ryan Wheeler would put Colorado Springs on top in the first, with an RBI double. Reno's Brad Snyder answered with an RBI double himself in the top of the second to tie the score at one apiece.
After Colorado Springs re-gained the lead in the fourth, the Aces would quickly tie things up again after an RBI double by infielder Josh Wilson.
In the top half of the sixth, the Aces would bring three runners across the plate, and it proved to be the difference in the ballgame. A trio of RBI singles by outfielder Alfredo Marte, outfielder Brad Snyder, and catcher Ed Easley gave Reno a three run advantage. The club would tack on an additional three runs in the ninth inning, highlighted by RBI triples from Matt Davidson and Snyder.
Reno's Garrett Mock (5 IP, 1 ER) and Colorado Springs' Jeff Francis (5 IP, 2 ER) each delivered quality starts for their respective clubs, before giving away to the bullpen.
LHP Eury De La Rosa produced a stellar outing out of the Aces bullpen, as he held Colorado Springs scoreless in 2.2 innings pitched.
Aces infielder Matt Davidson recorded his third consecutive multi-hit game, with three hits and 2 RBI.
Mock picked up the win, and improved to 5-4 on the season for Reno. Nick Schmidt suffered the loss for the Sky Sox, and fell to 3-3 on the year.
Tomorrow the Aces continue their four-game series in Colorado Springs. RHP Charles Brewer (3-7, 5.38 ERA) will get the nod for Reno, while the Sky Sox will counter with RHP Chris Volstad (5-1, 4.55 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. PT, and all of the action can be heard live on KPLY 630 AM.
