Hurlers Combine on One-Hitter in Tucson Victory
July 4, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Padres News Release
Four Tucson pitchers combined to toss the first one-hitter in team history Wednesday as the Padres defeated the Sacramento River Cats 2-0 at Raley Field. The Padres have won nine of their last 13 games and won all three series on their 12-game road trip.
Jaff Decker's two-out RBI single in the top of the second gave the Padres an early 1-0 advantage. Tucson had a chance to add a run in the third on Brandon Allen's single to left, but Sacramento's Shane Peterson threw out Dean Anna trying to score from second base.
Daniel Robertson made a diving catch in the right-center field gap to start the bottom of the fourth and kept Sacramento hitless against Matt Andriese. Daric Barton ended the no-hit attempt with two outs in the sixth by doubling to right field, the River Cats lone hit of the game. Tucson extended its lead to 2-0 in the top of the eighth when Chris Robinson came home on a wild pitch. Sacramento loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth on three walks, but Brad Boxberger was able to get out the jam with a strikeout and pop out. Miles Mikolas put the River Cats down in order in the ninth for his 18th save of the year.
The win for Andriese was his first with Tucson. Andriese struck out eight and walked two in seven innings of work. Arnold Leon was charged with the loss in his Triple-A debut after surrendering six hits and one run, while striking out nine.
