Islanders Sign Schempp to Entry-Level Contract

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The New York Islanders announced today that center Kyle Schempp has agreed to a two-year, entry-level contract. Schempp will join the Sound Tigers on an Amateur Tryout contract for the remainder of the 2015-16 season.

Schempp, 22, has played the past three seasons at Ferris State University, recording nine goals and 16 assists in 41 games as a junior this year. The 6-foot, 178-pound center posted 66 points (29 goals, 37 assists) in 121 games during his career with the Bulldogs and captained the team to a WCHA Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance this season.

Selected by the Islanders in the sixth round (155th overall) of the 2014 National Hockey League Draft, Schempp has been named to the WCHA All-Academic Team the past two seasons. A member of the 2013-14 WCHA All-Rookie Team, the Saginaw, Mich., native played a season for the Sioux Falls Stampede in the United States Hockey League before joining the Bulldogs.
