IronPigs Set New Franchise Mark with 10-Run Third Inning to Drop Mets and Even the Series

Allentown, Pennsylvania - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (50-45, 14-8) set a new franchise record for runs in an inning as they plated 10 runs in the third inning to down the Syracuse Mets (40-56, 7-15) by a final of 14-11 on Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Park.

Weston Wilson started the game off with a bang, belting a two-run homer, his 25th of the season, in the last of the first to start the scoring for the IronPigs.

In the third, Esteban Quiroz started the record-setting frame with a two-run single before the IronPigs did the rest of their damage with two outs. Simon Muzziotti and Kody Clemens recorded back-to-back RBI singles before Darick Hall and Jordan Qsar each drove in runs with bases loaded walks. Aramis Garcia then capped the frame with a grand slam, his fifth homer of the season and first grand slam for the IronPigs.

Syracuse made significant inroads, starting in the fifth. Rafael Ortega plated a run with an RBI groundout before a wild pitch scored Nick Meyer. After a walk, Luke Voit smacked a three-run homer.

The Mets clawed back another in the sixth on a solo homer from Luke Ritter before making it a one-run game in the seventh. Abraham Almonte plated a run with an RBI single before a bases loaded walk to Ritter scored another. Cortes roped a two-run single to make it a two-run game before Ortega walked to force home a run to make it 12-11 IronPigs. Ben Bowden managed to strike out Ronny Mauricio with the bases loaded however to preserve the lead.

The IronPigs got some breathing room back in the seventh. Garcia picked up his fifth RBI of the day with a single before Quiroz collected his third RBI with a groundout to make it 14-11.

Luis Ortiz (3-0) picked up the win out of the bullpen, working a clean eighth, striking out one.

Jose Butto (2-5) swallowed the loss for the Mets, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits and four walks, striking out two.

Connor Brogdon (S, 1) fired a perfect ninth inning, striking out two, to secure the win for the IronPigs.

The IronPigs and Mets continue their series on Thursday, July 27, with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m.
