Groshans Helps Jumbo Shrimp to Walk-off Win

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp overcame a three-run deficit with Jordan Groshans' walk-off single Wednesday to beat the Gwinnett Stripers 5-4 at 121 Financial Ballpark.

Jacksonville (43-53, 12-11) and Gwinnett (43-53, 10-12) were tied going Into the bottom of the ninth inning. With one out, Peyton Burdick singled off Stripers reliever Jackson Stephens (1-1). Following a pitching change, Trey Johnston doubled. Groshans then blooped a base hit down the left field line, driving in Burdick to seal the win 5-4.

Gwinnett got out to an early lead in the first inning. Luke Williams kicked off the game with a single and back-to-back walks from Braden Shewmake and Vaughn Grissom loaded the bases. Following a fly out, Joe Dunand notched a single, scoring Williams and Shewmake for the first two runs of the game. In the ensuing at bat, Hoy Park hit a sacrifice fly, plating Grissom to make it 3-0.

Jacksonville got a run back in the bottom of the first inning. Jake Mangum led off the frame with a walk and scored from first on Jacob Amaya's double, closing the gap to 3-1.

The Jumbo Shrimp tied the game in the bottom of the third frame. Amaya walked with two outs, and in the next at-bat, Avisaíl García (2) ripped a home run to make it 3-3.

Gwinnett retook the lead in the top of the seventh frame. With two outs, Justin Dean doubled. In the next at-bat, Williams singled, scoring Dean and putting the Stripers up one run.

In the home half of the eighth frame, Jacksonville tied the ballgame again. With two outs, Mangum ripped a base knock before stealing second. An infield single by Amaya put runners on the corners for Garc - a, whose base knock plated Mangum to tie the game.

Sean Reynolds (2-0) came in relief for the Jumbo Shrimp in the top of the ninth inning. Reynolds allowed no hits and struck out two to earn the win.

Jacksonville and Gwinnett continue their series Thursday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez (4-7, 7.04 ERA) gets the nod for the Jumbo Shrimp. Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on Bally Live, MiLB.tv., ESPN 690, and espn690.com.
