
IronPigs Fall in Extra Innings to Mud Hens

Allentown, Pennsylvania - In their longest game by innings of the season, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (33-31) fell 4-3 in 12 innings to the Toledo Mud Hens (28-37) on Thursday night at Coca-Cola Park.
Pitching dominated the day as the first runs of the game weren't score until the fifth inning. Parker Meadows ripped a two-run homer for Toledo, giving the Mud Hens a 2-0 advantage.
The IronPigs answered right back in the bottom of the fifth. With the bases loaded and one away, Esteban Quiroz roped a two-run single to tie the game at 2-2.
The pitching staffs for each clubs locked in from then on and the game stayed deadlocked at 2-2 going into the 11th. Finally, an Andre Lipcius sacrifice fly gave Toledo a 3-2 lead, only for Simon Muzziotti to come back with an RBI single in the bottom of the 11th to tie the game for the IronPigs.
In the 12th, Michael Papierski blooped an RBI single to center, putting Toledo ahead 4-3 for good.
Aneurys Zabala (3-1) collected the win for the Mud Hens, allowing an unearned run on a hit, striking out three. Matt Wisler (S, 2) retired all three batters he faced in the 12th, striking out one for the save.
Jesus Cruz (1-2) was tagged with the loss for the IronPigs, allowing an unearned run on a hit, striking out two in one inning of work.
Despite the loss, IronPigs pitching did manage to hold the Mud Hens hitless from the sixth until the 12th, collecting 18 outs in between base hits for the visitors.
The IronPigs and Mud Hens continue their series on Friday, June 16 with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. at Coca-Cola Park.
