DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations Scott White announced today that Iowa has signed defenseman Mike Gabinet to a Professional Tryout Contract (PTO). The Stars also released defenseman T.J. Kemp from his PTO.
Drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 8th round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Gabinet has appeared in 22 games for the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads. The 6-3, 210-pound rookie defenseman has recorded two goals, 12 assists and 45 penalty minutes for Iowa's ECHL affiliate: 22(2/12/14)45. A member of the National Conference Team at the 2006 ECHL All-Star Game, he played his college hockey at the University of Nebraska - Omaha. The Edmonton, Alberta native was born on September 26th, 1981.
Signed to a PTO on January 29th, Kemp appeared in three games for Iowa, registering no points and a âminus 5' rating: 3(0/0/0)0, -5. Kemp will rejoin the Reading (PA) Royals of the ECHL.
