Cleveland Barons News Release
Flashback
2/3/2006 Syracuse 4, Cleveland 3 - The Syracuse Crunch opened the game with four consecutive goals to overpower the Barons, 4-3, Friday night at the Q. Syracuse rookie Joakim Lindstrom scored twice for the Crunch who led 3-0 through the first period of play. The Syracuse right winger's first goal of the night was scored on a face off play in the offensive zone where he got a shot past Nolan Schaefer at the 6:36 mark of the period. Lindstrom then scored nearly three minutes later on an assists from Mark Hartigan and Geoff Platt to give the Crunch a 2-0 advantage. Also scoring in the first period was Greg Maudlin with his 10th of the year. The Barons failed to trim the Syracuse lead trading goals with the Crunch during the middle period of play. Maudlin extended the Syracuse lead to 4-0 with his second goal of the game and Barons left wing Patrick Rissmiller scored on a power play at the 18:04 mark of the period. The Barons scored two third period goals, but were unsuccessful in their comeback efforts. Aaron Power scored his second of the season, trimming the Syracuse lead to 4-2. Matt Carker found the net at the 14:18 mark for the game's final goal and his 8th of the year.
2/4/2006 Peoria 3, Cleveland 2 - Two power play goals from the Barons weren't enough on Saturday afternoon in a 3-2 loss to Peoria. For the 12th time in the last 14-games, the Barons surrendered the game's first goal. Peoria's newest member, Timofei Shishkanov scored his 17th of the season at 12:42 of the first period. Mike Motau earned an assist on the period's only goal. The first period was marked by a combined 24 minutes of penalties for the two teams, resulting from two separate fisticuffs. The Rivermen extended their lead to 2-0, on their only power play chance of the second period. Once again the Barons battled back during the third period, but fell short. Ryane Clowe and Mike Iggulden scored on power plays for the Barons tying the game at 2-2. Clowe's ninth of the year was assisted by Josh Hennessy and Patrick Rissmiller just 16- seconds into the final frame, trimming the lead to 2-1. Overtime looked inevitable until Trent Whitfield scored his 15th of season giving Peoria the win with just 40- seconds left in regulation time.
