Albany Devils News Release
Last Week: Sat 2/4 Albany 5 vs. LOCK MONSTERS 3 Sun 2/5 PROVIDENCE 4 vs. Lock Monsters 3
This Week: Wed 2/8 LOCK MONSTERS vs. Providence Bruins, 7:05 p.m. Fri 2/10 Lock Monsters @ BRIDGEPORT SOUND TIGERS, 7:35 p.m.
Rewind: Saturday, River Rats 5 vs. Lock Monsters 3 The Lock Monsters needed a period to shake off the rust of the All-Star Break, and fell behind to visiting Albany 3-1 after 20 minutes of play. But goals by Jeff Finger and Andrew Ladd knotted the score at 3-3 during the second stanza. Albany regained the lead with Ahren Nittel scoring his second of the game, on the first shift of the third period, and the Rats held on for the win. They added an empty netter to seal the deal.
Sunday, Bruins 4 vs. Lock Monsters 3 Lowell took to the road on Sunday and opened the scoring with a tally by Vince Bellissimo, but for the second straight day fell behind 3-1 after the first period. A second period goal by Chris Hajt and a tally midway through the third by Cody McLeod erased the deficit for the Monsters. A late power play for Providence, however, yielded the game winner, as Mark Stuart tallied with the man advantage to spoil the comeback.
Monsters Memos - LW Andrew Ladd, who started the year with Lowell before a recall to Carolina in November, returned for a one-game conditioning assignment on Saturday. He scored a goal to give him eight tallies and 12 points in 16 games with the Lock Monsters this season. Ladd rejoined the Hurricanes on Sunday. - Two Lowell defensemen scored their first goals of the season this weekend. Jeff Finger lit the lamp on Saturday and Chris Hajt on Sunday, and both tallies sparked two-goal comebacks for the Monsters. - The Lock Monsters lost the services of G Vitaly Kolesnik to Team Kazakhstan and the Winter Olympics last weekend. The Olympic hockey tournament is scheduled to run through February 25th for the Gold Medal Game. G Tyler Weiman was reassigned from San Diego (ECHL) to take his spot on the roster. - RW David Svagrovsky was also reassigned from San Diego to the Monsters by the Colorado Avalanche. He made his AHL debut on Sunday and had an assist. - Sunday's game was the first regulation loss in a road game in which the Lock Monsters scored the first goal (6-1-0-1) and just the second Lowell loss overall in such situations (13-2-1-2).
