Idaho Secures Second Place in Pacific Division 20 with 2-1 Series Victory Over Alaska

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads solidified second place behind the Las Vegas Wranglers in the Pacific Division, with a victorious 2-1 series against the Aces in Anchorage. The two have now faced each other for five straight games and going into the stretch were battling for second place, with Idaho coming out on top in the series, 3-2. In 82 games all-time against the Aces, Idaho is 51-22-3 (29-6-2 at home and 22-16-1 away). The Steelheads are back home for a three-game Thanksgiving holiday series against the Pacific Division's fifth place Fresno Falcons (7-7-1).

RECORD:

Overall, Idaho has improved their record to 10-7-0, and have posted a winning percentage of .588. They are 6-3-0 at home and 4-4-0 on the road. The team's 20 points has them tied for fifth place in the League standings. Idaho is 6-4-0 in their last ten games

GAME RECAPS:

11/19/03 @ Anchorage: IDAHO 5 - ALASKA 2 ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Ticker) -- Zenon Konopka scored a goal and assisted on two others to help the Idaho Steelheads beat the Alaska Aces, 5-2. Konopka helped out Jan Kopecky on a first-period goal, assisted Adam Copeland on a power-play marker 7:38 into the third and capped the scoring with a shorthanded tally nearly six minutes later. Scott Burt netted a power-play goal to supply Idaho with a 3-1 lead with two minutes left in the second period. Dan Ellis turned away 18 shots in the victory, the Steelheads' second consecutive over Alaska. Kimbi Daniels assisted on a goal by Chris Lipsett 14 seconds into the contest and added a shorthanded marker 7:10 into the third for the Aces, who lost for just the second time in their last eight home games. Dan Murphy gave up all five goals on 27 shots for the loss.

11/21/03 @ Anchorage: IDAHO 2 - ALASKA 6 ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Ticker) -- Charles Linglet scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to help the Alaska Aces beat the Idaho Steelheads, 6-2. Linglet, who leads ECHL rookies with 20 points (8 goals, 12 assists), tied the game on the power play at 2-2 with 1:56 remaining in the middle period and then put Alaska ahead for good 32 seconds later. Chris Lipsett finished with a goal and three assists for the Aces, who scored five unanswered goals and improved to 7-2 at home. Dan Murphy had 23 saves to pick up his seventh win for Alaska. Wade Davis and Darrell Hay were the goal scorers for Idaho, which fell to 2-2 against the Aces. Blair Allison made 19 stops in the loss.

11/22/03 @ Anchorage: IDAHO 3 - ALASKA 2 ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Ticker) -- David Cornacchia and Chris Gobert both had a goal and an assist to help the Idaho Steelheads top the Alaska Aces, 3-2. Cornacchia tied the contest at 1-1 with 3:14 left in the first period and helped out on a power-play goal by Zenon Konopka 34 seconds into the second. Gobert, who also assisted on the man-advantage score, tallied four minutes later to push the advantage for Idaho to two goals. Dan Ellis turned away 15 of 17 shots for the win, the third in the last four road games for the Steelheads. Chris Lipsettscored in the first period and Kimbi Daniels added a power-play marker in the middle stanza for Alaska, which was limited to just five shots in the third. Dan Murphy had 28 saves for the Aces, who lost at home for just the fourth time in 11 contests.

IN THE NET: Goaltender Dan Ellis' record is 5-5, allowing 30goals and making 240 stops. He is 2-0 in shootout wins, allowing only one 1 goal in 9 attempts. Ellis has posted a 2.97 average and a save percentage of .889. Goaltender Blair Allison is 5-2, allowing 13 goals in 157 attempts. Allison has posted an average of 1.86 and save percentage of .924, and is currently sixth in the league. Going into this season, Allison holds the Steelheads all-time games played for goaltenders with 85 (2001-03); wins with 57 (2001-03); GAA with 2.55 (2001-03); and shutouts with 4 (2001-03).

Both Idaho goaltenders have had perfect games this season, each earning a shutout in a weekend duo against Cincinnati: Friday, November 7th Idaho shutout Cincinnati 3-0 with goaltender Dan Ellis in net, and Saturday, November 8th Blair Allison excelled as the winning goalie in a 1-0 match. The pair of wins marked the first back-to-back shutouts in Idaho Steelheads history.

SCORING LEADERS: Czech native Jan Kopecky (F) has notched 16 points in 17 games played. He scored 5 points in the series against the Aces with 3 goals and 2 assists. Overall on the season, Kopecky has 8 goals and 8 assists, and 2 game-winning goals. Darrell Hay's (D) 15 points (4G, 9A) earns him second spot on the team in scoring. Hay notched 5 points against Anchorage - in 5 games he scored 2 goals and 3 assists. Chris Marinucci (F) and David Cornacchia are tied for third on the team in scoring with 10 points each. Marinucci has 4G and 6A in 9 games played, and Cornacchi has 2G and 8A in 17 games played.

Zenon Konopka who was activated off the 30-day IR on November 14th, played his first game as a Steelhead against the Aces. In the five-games against the Aces, he racked up 7 points, scoring 3 goals and 4 assists.

PP and PK: Idaho's power play 13.20%, scoring 14 in 106 chances. The team's penalty kill 81.52%, allowing 17 in 92 attempts.
