San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO –– The San Diego Gulls did last week what they're used to doing... winning. After beating the Fresno Falcons Wednesday and Bakersfield Condors Friday, the Blue and Orange are back above .500. The Gulls are still stuck in sixth place, but a few wins this week can possibly jump them to first.

San Diego plays four games this Thanksgiving week: three at home and one on the road. If they can run the table and get some help from other teams, best-case scenario can put the Gulls tied atop the Pacific Division with the Las Vegas Wranglers.

WEEK IN REVIEW:

The Gulls hosted the Fresno Falcons Wednesday for the first time since Game 7 of last year's Taylor Cup Finals. It was another close battle, but San Diego pulled it out with a big 4-3 victory. Same results Friday in Bakersfield. The game went back and forth, but Mark Pederson won it in overtime.

Nov. 19 vs. Fresno

Dennis Purdie scored a pair of goals and Clayton Read added three points to help San Diego top Fresno, 4-3. Purdie netted a power-play goal midway through the first period to give the Gulls a 2-0 lead and snapped a 3-3 tie with 8:43 remaining in the third. Read opened the scoring 5:28 into the contest, assisted on the first goal by Purdie and helped Sylvan Deschatelets tie the score at 3-3 with 5:01 left in the second period.

Nov. 21 @ Bakersfield:

Mark Pederson finished with a hat trick and assisted on another goal to lead the Gulls over the Condors, 4-3. Pederson opened the scoring 50 seconds into the first period and knotted the contest at 2-2 on a power play with 7:24 left in the second. He then assisted on a game-tying tally by Greg Barber with 2:09 left in regulation and scored 2:56 into overtime. Trevor Koenig stopped one shot in overtime and 21 overall for the win. Andrew Ianiero had a power-play goal in the first period and assisted on a marker by Quinn Fair that gave Bakersfield a 3-2 lead with 3:09 left in the third. Joe Watkins gave up all four goals on 25 shots for the loss.

THIS WEEK:

The Gulls host the Alaska Aces Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. and the Long Beach Ice Dogs Friday at 7:35 p.m. The Blue and Orange play in Las Vegas Saturday at 7 p.m. before returning home to host Bakersfield Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Sunday's game will feature the first "Skate With The Gulls," held immediately following the game.

TEAM NOTES:

San Diego plays eight of its next nine game at home... On Wednesday the Gulls broke a streak of 340:36 without an even strength goal... The Blue and Orange have still played the fewest games in the ECHL... Steve Martinson needs nine more wins for 400 all-time...

PLAYER NOTES:

Dennis Purdie recorded his 500th career point Friday... Pederson, who had four points Friday, had one point in his previous six games... Billy Tibbetts is expected to miss about two more weeks with a fractured wrist... Sandro Sbrocca should be activated from the injured list in time for Tuesday's game against the Aces...

All games can be heard on KPOP 1360AM with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play. The Gulls' Internet radio show, hosted by Tera Black and Jeremy Zager on wsradio.com, will begin airing biweekly soon. Stay tuned for more details.
