Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA â The Pensacola Ice Pilots scored two late 3rd period goals, just 35 seconds apart, to defeat the Louisiana IceGators 2-1 Tuesday night in the Cajundome. Former IceGators goaltender Frederic Cloutier earned the #1 star of the game stopping 55 of 56 IceGators shots.
After two scoreless periods, Louisiana got on the board midway through the 3rd period. As Pensacola tried to clear the puck out of the zone, it hit a metal brace that holds the glass together and bounced right to Alex Materukhin, who fired a wrist shot from the left circle past Cloutier to give Louisiana a 1-0 lead with 9:38 left to play. It was Materukhin's 5th goal of the year. Rookie Nathan Marsters played well in net for the home team stopping 38 of 40 Pensacola shots but it was not good enough to get the win. At the 15:06 mark of the period, Ryan Vince passed the puck to Jade Galbraith going to the net. Galbraith was stopped on his first shot but the rebound came right back to him and the veteran lifted a backhander over the shoulder of Marsters to tie the game at 1. It was Galbraith's first goal of the season. Just 35 seconds later at 15:41 the same line for the Ice Pilots worked the puck free and Nick Lindberg's centering pass hit a wide open Vince for the one-timer and a 2-1 lead, on his 3rd of the season. Cloutier did the rest, stopping the Gators on 8 shots in the final muniute to preserve the 2-1 Pensacola win.
The loss drops the IceGators to 3rd in the South Division with a record of 7-4-2. The Gators were 0-5 on the power play, Pensacola 0-2. The two team combined for 96 shots, 56 for Louisiana, 40 for the Ice Pilots.
