Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
GREENVILLE, SC -- Nick Boucher made 34 saves for his first shutout of the season as the Pee Dee Pride defeated the Greenville Grrrowl 3-0 on Tuesday night at the BI-LO Center.
The win was the Pride's fourth in a row, as the team improved to 5-0-1 over their last six games, and 11-4-2 for the season. Pee Dee is now in first place in the East Division with a one point lead over Charlote.
Pee Dee scored a pair of first-period goals to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.
Kevin Cooper made it 1-0 at 5:55, taking advantage of a bad Greenville clearing attempt. Colin Pepperall looked to clear the puck up the far wall, but Cooper stole the puck at the top of the right-wing circle and blasted a slap shot past Greenville goaltender Mike Morrison for his fourth goal of the season.
The Pride doubled the lead at 10:18. From the far corner of the Grrrowl end Cooper centered a pass in front and Chad Spurr was able to stuff the puck past Morrison for his third goal of the season.
Pee Dee doubled its lead 5:33 into the second period. Jeff Szwez fed a perfect centering pass in front for Michael Chin, and the former Grrrowl player was able to chip a shot over Morrison's glove for his fourth tally of the season.
The Pride return to action with three home games this weekend. Friday, the Charlotte Checkers come to town for a 7:30 face off in a showdown for first place in the East Division. Saturday, the Florida Everblades skate into town for another 7:30 match-up. The Pride meet the Everblades once again Sunday afternoon in a 2:30 matinee. It's Sunday Kids' Day, with tickets for kids 12 and under available for just $2.50, and kids' meals (hot dog, chips, and soda) are available for an additional $2.50.
Tickets for all Pride home games are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333 or _www.ticketmaster.com.
