Gomez, Aces On NHL Network\'s ECHL Game of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – The ECHL has announced that the ECHL Game of the Week airing on the NHL Network on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET will be the Alaska Aces at the Idaho Steelheads. Idaho defeated Alaska in the 2004 Pacific Division Finals en route to the Kelly Cup Championship.

Two-time Stanley Cup winner and 2000 NHL Rookie of the Year Scott Gomez, who is a native of Anchorage, has leads Alaska with 12 assists and has scored 14 points in 15 games. Gomez, who played in the NHL All-Star Game and was named to the NHL All-Rookie team in 2000, decided to play in his hometown rather than overseas during the NHL Lockout. Gomez was twice named Alaska Player of the Year while playing for East High School, who he led to the state championship as a sophomore. Gomez has a one-year contract with the Devils and would return to New Jersey if the NHL lockout ends. In 2003-04, Gomez finished tied for the NHL lead with 56 assists while scoring 70 points and finishing with a career-best plus-minus rating of +18.

The NHL Network has televised the ECHL All-Star Game live each of the past two years and is scheduled to televise the 2005 Coors Light ECHL All-Star Game live from Reading, Pennsylvania on January 26. The NHL Network also televised the 2004 Kelly Cup Finals.

NHL Network has ‘round-the-clock' hockey programming, offering viewers the most complete and in-depth hockey coverage including news, information and extended highlights. NHL Network programming includes NHL Classics, international hockey, amateur hockey, player profiles, interview shows and youth-oriented programs.
