Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release
Last Weeks Highlights:
10/22/04 > Long Beach 3 vs. San Diego 0
The Ice Dogs continued their early season dominance over the San Diego Gulls, winning their home opener, 3-0. Joe Cardarelli got the Ice Dogs on the board first with a power play goal, which ended up being the game winner. Evan Cheverie and Marco Rosa also scored, and Chris Madden earned the shutout stopping all 31 shots he faced. Malcolm Cameron got his first win as head coach of the Ice Dogs, who also won 3-0 in last season's home opener against Bakersfield.
10/23/04 > Long Beach 3 vs. Las Vegas 2 (SO)
The Ice Dogs picked up where they left off the night before, winning their second game in a row, this time against Las Vegas who they were 0-5 at home against last season. Nathan Martz got the Ice Dogs on the board first less than 8 minutes into the opening period, but Las Vegas countered with 2 goals to take a 2-1 lead. However, midway through the game Joe Cardarelli tied it up with a power play goal from David Walker and Evan Cheverie. The game remained scoreless though the 5 minute overtime period. In the shootout Marco Rosa scored the lone goal for both teams to give Long Beach the victory. Chris Madden, starting in his second straight game, stopped 36 shots in the win.
10/24/04 > Long Beach 4 vs. Bakersfield 5
Playing their third game in as many nights, the Ice Dogs suffered a heartbreaking loss at the hands of the Bakersfield Condors. Leading 4-2 with less than 8 minutes to go in the game, Bakersfield scored 2 goals just 37 second apart to tie it 4-4. Evan Cheverie was then assessed an interference penalty with 36 seconds to go in the game and Chris Twerdun of the Condors scored the game winner just 6 seconds later on the power play to seal the victory. Olivier Michaud suffered the loss in his first start with the Ice Dogs, making 36 saves. Long Beach was out shot 41-18 for the game.
