STORM NOTES
- Scott Fankhouser made 21 saves for the shutout Friday night against Wheeling (1-0). Scott is only the second goaltender in Storm history to collect a shutout in his first start with the Storm. Jimi St. John did it January 31,2004 against Roanoke (6-0). Only one other time in Storm history has a Toledo netminder had a shut out on opening night. October 18, 1996 David Goverde had 26 saves in a 4-0 win over Louisville.
- Ty Hennes scored Toledo's first goal of the 2004-05 season Friday night. The former Boston College center scored at 6:11 of the second period. It was a shorthanded goal; Nick Parillo set it up.
- 3 Point Saturday! The 6-3 win Saturday night saw three players register three points apiece. Maris Ziedins netted two goals and added one assist, while Sam Paolini and Pierre-luc Sleigher each added a goal and two assists.
- With the two wins this weekend, this is the second consecutive year Toledo has started 2-0-0. This is the ninth time Toledo has started 2-0 in its history. The other years that Toledo has started 2-0 are: 2003, 2001, 1998, 1995,1994, 1993, 1992, and 1991.
- Strictly Overwhelming! Toledo outscored its two weekend opponents 7-3, while out shooting them 65-40.
- Toledo scored one power play goal over the weekend. The Storm is one for eight with the man advantage this year (12.5%).
- Toledo's penalty kill unit is ranked 15th in the ECHL, killing off 13 of 15 chances against (86.7%).
STORM WATCH
- The Toledo Storm Coach's Show is this Tuesday evening from 6-7pm at the Bronze Boar. Goaltender Scott Fankhouser will join head coach Nick Vitucci and the voice of the Storm Matt Melzak for an hour of Storm talk.
- Friday night the archrival Peoria Rivermen will be in town to take on the Toledo Storm. Peoria was voted as the number one Storm rival by the fans. Toledo is 28-43-11 all-time against the Rivermen.
- Saturday night will be the first road game of the year for Toledo in Wheeling. The Storm defeated the Nailers 1-0 in the first meeting between the two. Toledo is 47-35-9 all-time against Wheeling.
STORM PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINATION:
Maris Ziedins (2 goal - 1 assists = 3 points, plus 2)
Ziedins scored his first and second goals of the season Saturday night against Dayton. His first goal gave Toledo a 4-2 lead late in the second and was eventually the game winning goal.
STORM GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK NOMINATION:
Scott Fankhouser (2-0-0, 1.50 gaa, 0.930 save%)
Scott stopped 37 of the 40 shots he faced leading the Storm to two victories over the weekend. He shutout the Nailers 1-0 Friday night for his first Storm win.
