Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA â The Louisiana IceGators look to bounce back from only the 2nd opening night loss in team history as week #2 of the season begins. The IceGators played only one game during the first weekend of ECHL play, losing 3-1 to the Mississippi Sea Wolves, Friday night, in Biloxi. The Gators outshot the Sea Wolves 40-26 but were repeatedly frustrated by the goaltending of Jason Wolfe. The only Louisiana goal of the night was scored on the power play by Mike Omicioli at 3:59 of the 2nd period. Kyle Kettles took the loss allowing 3 goals on 26 chances.
This Week The IceGators football-like schedule will continue with only one game to be played. Saturday night the Gators travel west to take on their closest foe, the Texas Wildcatters. The IceGators defeated Texas 2-1 in preseason play with David Baruruk getting the game winning goal with less than 2 minutes to play. Saturday's game will be available on the internet through www.icegators.com and on the radio via 960am, "The Gator".
Notes Last season the Gators were 13-2 against the boys from the Lone Star State.
Mike Omicioli scoring points is nothing new for the Rhode Island native. Last season playing in Italy, Omicioli averaged more than 2 points a game (19-46-65, in 30 games) while staring for Bolzano.
The IceGators have never begun a season with a 0-2 record.
The IceGators will practice all week at the Hockeyplex in Carencro, all practices during the week begin at 10am.
