
Partnership with EMBRACE Announced

SAN DIEGO â On Saturday, Nov. 13 the San Diego Gulls will be participating in the "Moving for Love & Life Youth Workshop. The workshop utilizes sports to teach children the importance of diversity and active lifestyles to ensure social and physical wellness.
Some 60 underprivileged children from King-Chavez Academy of Excellence and Nubia Leadership Academy will be taken through an award-winning program titled EMBRACE, an interactive program that teaches the importance of diversity and active, healthy lifestyle habits through sports.
The full day educational workshop will go from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will include a 45-minute aerobic workout led by Tamilee Webb (www.tamileewebb.com), creator of the famous Buns of Steel and Abs of Steel workout videos. The Gulls organization will be partnering with the EMBRACE program to help make this day a memorable one. The workshop will take place at the Martin Luther King Recreation Center located at 6401 Skyline Drive in Encanto.
The EMBRACE Program was honored with several prestigious awards resulting from the diversity curriculum that was delivered during the week of July 1 at the Los Angeles Lakers' Books and Basketball Camp in Inglewood, Calif. EMBRACE was the program of note during the weeklong camp, hosted by Lakers Assistant Coach, Jim Cleamons, and serviced academically "at risk" children between the ages of 8 and 14.
The EMBRACE Program was awarded:
· Commendation from the City of Inglewood and Mayor Roosevelt F. Dorn
· Resolution from the California State Assembly and the Honorable Jerome E. Horton
· Resolution from California Secretary of State Kevin Shelley

EMBRACE is a nonprofit, multi-facetted, community based program that focuses on eliminating race-centered ignorance and the sedentary lifestyles of children through sports. The curriculum promotes understanding and respect of self and others through interactive, educational workshops, and creates activity clubs on middle and high school campuses that focus on social cohesiveness and positive health habits.
