I-Cubs Take Down Grizzlies

FRESNO, CA - Adbert Alzolay carried the Iowa Cubs (37-31) through six frames to lead the team to a 7-2 victory and a series win over the Fresno Grizzlies (33-34), Friday at Chukchansi Park.

Alzolay held the Grizzlies scoreless through four, while Iowa's offense built a lead. The scoreless game was cracked in the third inning as RBI singles from Jim Adduci and Robel Garcia gave Iowa a 2-0 edge.

Dixon Machado doubled in Trent Giambrone in the fourth, then scored on an Erick Castillo sacrifice fly to double the I-Cubs' lead. Giambrone boosted Iowa's offense again with an RBI single in the fifth as Iowa constructed a 5-0 edge.

Matt Reynolds broke Alzolay's scoreless outing with a solo home run in the fifth inning. The righty gave up one more run in sixth but limited Fresno to the pair of runs through a 6.0-frame quality start. Alzolay allowed eight hits, walked none and fanned nine to match a season high.

Giambrone continued his offensive tear with a solo homer in the eighth, before pushing in another run with a bases-loaded walk in the ninth. He ended his night 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs and three RBI.

Duane Underwood Jr., Junichi Tazawa and Dakota Mekkes limited the Grizzlies to four hits combined through a scoreless three frames of work in relief.

POSTGAME NOTES:

- Trent Giambrone tied Ian Happ and Robel Garcia for the team lead with his 11th home run of the season. He also took the team lead with his eighth stolen base.

- Jim Adduci extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a 2-for-4 night.

- Ian Happ walked three times to match a season and career high.

- Adbert Alzolay holds a 1.93 ERA (6ER/28.0IP) with 40 strikeouts through his last five starts.
