Iowa Cubs News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Round Rock Express (43-30) captured a 6-5 victory over the Iowa Cubs (41-33) in 10 innings, Friday at Principal Park.
Iowa struck early with a three-run second, executed by a Dixon Machado home run. Both teams plated a run in the third to keep the game close before the Express banished their deficit. Round Rock pulled within one on a Drew Ferguson RBI single in the fourth, then locked the game at 4-4 on a two-run Joshua Rojas homer in the fifth.
Alec Mills narrowly missed a quality start as he allowed four earned runs through 6.0 innings. He walked three and fanned four. Tony Barnette spun a flawless seventh, before turning the ball over to Craig Kimbrel, who allowed one hit in one scoreless inning of work to keep the tie intact.
The Express broke through in the ninth as AJ Reed was hit by a pitch to open the frame. Reed moved up on an error, reached third on a groundout and scored the go-ahead run on an Alex De Goti sacrifice fly. Iowa didn't go quietly as Jim Adduci doubled to lead off the bottom of the frame and scored on a Machado single to keep the I-Cubs alive and force extra innings.
Round Rock got the job done for good in the 10th as Kyle Tucker singled in the free runner with one out to give the game to the Express.
POSTGAME NOTES:
- Jim Adduci extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a 2-for-4 night.
- Tony Barnette has spun 8.1 scoreless innings through nine outings in his second 2019 rehab stint with Iowa.
