August 5, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Salt Lake Bees News Release
The Salt Lake Bees hit their franchise record 186th home run of the season, but fell to the New Orleans Baby Cakes 8-2 on Sunday night.
The Baby Cakes got on the board first in the second inning, scoring one run to take 1-0 lead.
New Orleans broke the game open with four runs on five hits in the third, one run in the fourth and another run in the sixth to take a commanding 7-0 advantage. In the bottom of the sixth, Michael Hermosillo hit a solo home run to give the Bees their first run of the contest. New Orleans tacked on one more run off a fielding error in the eighth. Salt Lake scored one run in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI-single by Nick Franklin, but it was not enough as New Orleans took game three of the series 8-2. Hermosillo's solo shot was the record breaker, putting the 2019 Bees past the 2000 Salt Lake Buzz team for first in franchise history with 186 team home runs with 30 games remaining in the season.
Matt Ball (0-2) got the start for Salt Lake and was tagged with the loss as he surrendered five runs on eight hits while walking three and striking out three. Ball was relieved by Adam Hofacket, who allowed two runs on two hits while fanning four batters over two and two-thirds innings. Sam Freeman threw two and two-thirds innings and allowed one unearned run. Position player Ty Kelly made a relief appearance and tossed a scoreless ninth inning. The Bees offense went 4-for-32 at the plate and left seven runners on base in the contest.
Salt Lake and New Orleans finish their series with a 7:05 first pitch on Monday night. Fans can purchase the Monday night Smith's Family Night offer of four tickets and four hot dogs for $20 at www.slbees.com. Following Monday night the Bees will head to the Midwest to start a seven game road trip through Omaha and Iowa before returning to Smith's Ballpark on Thursday, Aug. 15.
