Grrrowl trade veteran Kirton to Trenton

GREENVILLE, SC â The Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL have announced that SCOTT KIRTON (F) has been traded to the Trenton Titans of the ECHL for BILL CASS (D) and future considerations. In a separate transaction, JONATHAN ZION (D) has been assigned to the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL.
KIRTON is currently the leading active scorer for the Grrrowl with 35 points (16G, 19A) in 51 games, and has totaled 79 penalty minutes this season. On Sunday, February 15th, Kirton played in his 500th regular season professional game in 13 seasons. He has played in an additional 58-playoff games during the same period. Kirton was a 7th round selection of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, and played college hockey at the University of North Dakota.
CASS (6-0, 205lbs., defenseman) was an 5th round selection in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, and has played 51 games with Trenton this season, totaling 9 points (3G, 6A) and 29 penalty minutes. Cass, a Hingham, MA native, has also played two games this season with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks of the AHL, tallying 2 assists.
ZION has totaled 3 points (2G, 1A) and 2 penalty minutes in 7 games with the Grrrowl. Zion was a 2004 ECHL All-Star Selection and competed in the annual showcase in Peoria, IL in January. Zion has played 26 games in the AHL since turning professional in 2002.
The Grrrowl finish a 5-game home stand with a game at the BI-LO Center this Friday (2/27 vs. Charlotte) and Saturday night (2/28 vs. Gwinnett) â both 7:05pm starts.
