San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO â Want a chance to hang out with your favorite San Diego Gulls players, win some cool prizes and help out a worthy charity? Well, here's your chance...
The Gulls are holding their 13th annual "Tip-A-Gull" event on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Dick's Last Resort, located in the Gaslamp district of downtown San Diego.
Gulls players will hang up their skates and strap on their aprons, serving as waiters and bartenders. They'll also assist with a live auction that will include various sports memorabilia such as autographed jerseys, sticks, baseballs, hats as well as tickets to sporting events throughout Southern California. Gulls tickets will also be auctioned off as well as a "Date with a Gull." Players will also be available for photos and autographs.
All proceeds will benefit United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego County and KSWB Cares for Kids. UCP is recognized as one of the largest and most efficient health charities in America, and its affiliate in San Diego spends approximately 84 percent of its total income on community programs and services. Last year, the Gulls helped raise nearly $20,000 for UCP, the most in the event's history.
The KSWB Cares for Kids Fund, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation, was established to improve the lives of children and families in San Diego County by supporting local children's charities. The KSWB Cares For Kids Fund will donate 50 cents for every dollar raised at the event.
"The San Diego Gulls continue to make a strong tradition of community support a top priority," David Carucci, executive director of UCP of San Diego County said. "The list of organizations they assist every year is a long one and we are most thankful that it includes a special effort when it comes to UCP.
"We are pleased and proud to partner with the team and appreciate their long-time support of our disabled friends and neighbors and their families throughout San Diego County."
Admission to "Tip-A-Gull" is free and the first 100 kids will receive a free Gulls goodie bag.
Dick's Last Resort is located at 345 4th Ave in downtown San Diego. For directions, call 619-231-9100.
