
Rookie Black Reassigned to Worcester

Peoria, Ill. (February 25, 2004) â Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that rookie center Greg Black has been reassigned to the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate â the Worcester IceCats â by NHL's St. Louis Blues. Christie also announced that rookie forward/defenseman Mike Hoffman has been reassigned to the Rivermen from Worcester by St. Louis for the third time this season.
Black â a 6-foot-2, 195-pound native of Kamloops, British Columbia â notched five goals and six points with 55 penalty minutes (PIM) over 12 games in his second stint with the Rivermen from January 22 to February 22. Over 15 total games with Peoria, the 21-year-old has seven points (5g, 2a) and 69 PIM.
Black has notched two points (1g, 1a) and racked up 66 PIM in 16 games with Worcester this season. Before signing as a free agent with the Blues on March 20, 2003, he enjoyed a four-year Major Junior "A" hockey career with the Western Hockey League's (WHL) Seattle Thunderbirds, collecting 143 points (80g, 63a) in 257 career games.
Hoffman â a 6-foot-5, 248-pound native of Scituate, Massachusetts â tallied his first professional points (two assists on January 3 in Toledo) with the Rivermen over five games from December 28 to January 4. In his most recent reassignment with Peoria from February 4-10, he racked up seven (7) PIM in three games. The 23-year-old, who has played in 15 games for the IceCats this season with 20 PIM, was signed as a free agent by the Blues on December 19 and assigned to Worcester.
Hoffman played in just three games at the NCAA Division I University of Connecticut this season with two (2) PIM. Last year (2002-2003), after red shirting as a freshman, he collected 10 points (2g, 8a) in 28 games with 24 PIM.
The Rivermen host the Reading Royals on Friday, February 27 and Saturday, February 28. Game times are 7:00 p.m. at Carver Arena. On Friday, it is another Coca-Cola Finally Friday. Fans receive a 2-for-1 Upper Bowl admission by presenting a Cherry Coke or Vanilla Coke can at the Carver Arena Box Office. Senior Account Executive Ralph Rashid will be inducted into the Rivermen Hall of Fame in the Builders Division. On Saturday, it is Caterpillar Night. The first 2,000 fans receive a Rivermen Pop-Up Chair, courtesy of Caterpillar. Claude Scott â The Happy Trumpeter will appear both nights, courtesy of Velde Automotive. The Rivermen are a member of the ECHL â America's Premier "AA" Hockey League.
