Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (February 25, 2004) â The Titans enjoyed their home cooking today as they sailed past the Johnstown Chiefs 5-2. The Chiefs came out to an early 2-0 lead, but Trenton roared back with 5 unanswered goals. In the victory tonight Scott Bertoli made his presence known in his first appearance since January 23rd, by providing 3 assists tonight, including his 40th point of the season. B.J. Kilbourne, Nick Deschenes and Tyler Kindle all notched 2 points apiece, as 4,551 watched the Titans convert on 2 of 6 power play opportunities tonight at Sovereign Bank Arena.
Johnstown forward Steve Hildenbrand scored just 2:54 into the contest to put the Chiefs ahead 1-0. As 1:54 elapsed in the second period, the Chiefs would claim a two-goal advantage, but that was all they would get as the Titans stole the show from there. Five minutes after Johnstown's second tally, the Titans got on the board as P.J. Martin as he lifted the puck to the top shelf, stick-side past the Chiefs' David Currie. B.J. Kilbourne began the power play's surge as he knocked in another one over Currie's right shoulder 12:05 into the period, tying it up 2-2
With 11:43 remaining in the third period, Ryan Crane took a feed on the near side from Scott Bertoli and fired past Currie's glove side. That would prove to be the game winner. Yet the Titans added 2 more goals in the last 3 minutes to take revenge on the Chiefs for Sunday's 4-2 loss at Johnstown.
Andrew Allen came came-up strong for the Titans in the third period as he stopped all 14 shots he faced, and 28 of 30 total. This was the first time all season the Titans have won a game when trailing after the first period, and only their third win when they have out shot their opponent.
The Trenton Titans are a member of the ECHL â America's Premier "AA" Hockey League. The Trenton Titans play at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, NJ. The Titans continue on to Reading to take on the Royals on Friday, February 27 at 7:30pm before they start a nine-game stint on the road at Atlantic City with a 7:05pm face-off at Boardwalk Hall this Saturday, February 28th.
