Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies defeated the Bakersfield Condors 5-3 Friday night at Maverik Center.
Shane Owen stopped 30 of 33 shots in his season debut to improve to 1-0 with the Grizzlies.
"It was a a gutsy win," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "The first period was real sloppy, guys trying to do much, but we slowly started to figure some things out and gain some momentum. I think the biggest positive is that Shane Owen had a great game."
Utah scored two goals in 25 seconds at 7:57 of the second period and 8:22 to take a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal from Bryan Cameron (12) and a follow-up shot off the wall by Kory Falite. T.J. Battani's first pro goal made it 3-2 Utah 1:04 after Bakersfield tied the contest at one as Cameron and Riley Armstrong (two assists) worked up ice on a three-on-two. Owen stopped a flurry of shots to keep the game 3-2 to end the frame.
Early in the third, Bakersfield again tied things up, but Utah came back with two goals in less than five minutes as Colin Vock made it 4-3 on the power-play (5:18) and Falite (8) scored his second of the night hammering in a Vock shot at 10:13.
Mark Isherwood (two assists) and Cameron (one goal, one assist) also had multiple-point nights for Utah.
Utah hosts Bakersfield again Saturday with more buy-one-get-one-free entrees from Angelina's Little Italy and El Pasado Cantina. It is Guns N Hoses Night. Visit www.utahgrizzlies.com for more information.
