Trenton Wins Shootout in Elmira, 8-5
January 19, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release
ELMIRA, NY - With a team like Elmira, you have to come out hard and fast. Get out in front and take the attack to them. And with the Jackals coming off a game and long ride from Kalamazoo on Wednesday night, that's exactly what Trenton did...
Came out hard and fast.
The Titans, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, jumped out to a 4-1 first period lead - including three goals in a four minute span - then held off a heavy Elmira charge to drop the Jackals, 8-5, before 3,802 fans at First Arena last night.
Connor Goggin got things started with a scoring blast just 90 seconds into the game for a 1-0 Titans lead. Artem Demkov picked up his first of two on the night four minutes later to tie the score. Things seemed to settle down after that...but only briefly.
Andy Bohmbach bagged his third straight power play goal to give Trenton the lead for good, 2-1, at 12:23. Fourteen seconds later Kory Nagy foung the back of the net and just that fast it was 3-1 Titans.
When David Laliberte scored his first goal as a Titan nearly four minutes later for the 4-1 advantage, Elmira goalies Maxime Clermont (8 saves on 12 shots) was chased for veteran netminder Ian Keserich.
Demkov scored late to close the period at 4-2 Titans. Then a Jean Bourbeau short-handed goal at 5:26 of the second made the deficit just 4-3.
The Titans would not fold and soon bumped the lead back up to three, after a Derrick Pallis blast - his first career ECHL goal - and Jacob Drewiske's seventh of the season went five-hole on Keserich (L, 0-1, 19 saves), making it 6-3 going into the third.
Elmira once again fought back to within one, when Matt Campanale scored with 3:11 left to play, making it 6-5.
But for the final time on the night the Titans had an answer. Justin Taylor scored 19 seconds after Campanale - his first goal in 12 games - putting the lead back to two at 7-5. Thirty-four seconds later Jacob Cepis empty-netted his 12th of the year to finish the game's scoring.
Scott Wedgewood stood tall in the Jackal shooting gallery, stopping 33 on the night for his second consecutive win (12-11-2).
There is no rest for the weary as the Titans quickly turn around and head back home for a two-game set with the Cincinnati Cyclones. Saturday January 19 (7:05 pm) is Scout Night with a Post-game skate, while Sunday is a 3:05 pm faceoff with the Titans holding their "Pucks and Paws" promotion. The Voice of the Titans, "The Bronc" Daryle Dobos, will call all the action on AmericaOne.com, 107.7 FM (Trenton) and 1077theBronc.com.
