Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (28-10-1-2), defending Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, defeated the Colorado Eagles (19-18-1-2) in a close match before a home crowd of 8,489 on Friday night.
As they have done 25 times this season, the Reign scored first with an unassisted goal from Mario Lamoureux. The rookie stole the puck just inside the Eagles zone and beat Kyle Jones down low. The Eagles answered with two power-play goals in a row. The first came at 11:46 from the slot at the hands of Aaron Schneekloth. Less than three minutes later Jason Beatty took advantage of a Reign error picking up an attempted clear. He fired it through traffic and past JF Berube giving Colorado a 2-1 lead.
The Reign almost tripled their first period shot count with 15 shots in the second period and converted one of their power-play chances when Colton Yellow Horn sent a wrister top shelf to tie the game 2-2. He was wide open to receive a pass from Chris Huxley and Cameron Burt for the equalizer.
Lamoureux struck again to give the Reign a 3-2 lead in the final frame. He caught a pass from Yellow Horn on his backhand and wrapped it around the post to his forehand to push it in past Jones for what would be the game-winning goal. Burt earned his second assist on the goal.
In his first game back since his AHL call-up to Manchester, Berube earned the win with 21 saves on 23 shots, Jones took the loss stopping 21 of 24 shots.
