Utah Grizzlies News Release

Anchorage, Alaska -After getting eliminated from the playoffs last weekend, the Utah Grizzlies did not throw in the towel this season putting up a strong effort despite only 14 skaters in a 4-3 loss in Alaska Wednesday night.

The Utah Grizzlies took the idea of being "spoiler" serious, coming out strong and posting a quick 2-0 lead after one period on the road and Anchorage. Grizzlies started off with D.J. Jelitto's 15th of the season with the assist going to the Grizzlies defensemen of the year Andy Sertich. Then in the final minute of the period, Bill Kinkel put in his 5th of the season with assists to Shawn Thompson and one of the hottest Grizzlies Danny Stewart.

The Alaska Aces came out for the second period looking to get back in the game and reclaim the number one seed in the conference. Alaska was able to even up the score at two after two periods gaining momentum. Joe Talbot put the Aces on the board 12:23 into the second with his 25th of the season. And with five minutes left in the second Alaska evened the score as Matt Shasby scored his 9th of the year to even the score.

The Aces took the momentum from the second period and came out and took the lead just under five minutes into the third with Matt Robinson's 19th of the season. The Grizzlies answered back and tied the game just over five minutes later with Blake Robson's 9th of the season and the assist given to Andy Sertich, his second of the game. Just over a minute later the Aces regained the lead with a shorthanded goal by Matt Shasby, his second goal of the game. The goal turned out to be a difference maker as the Grizzlies fall 4-3 in Anchorage.

Rob McVicar stopped 31 of 35 shots.

Prior to the game, the Grizzlies activated Luciano Aquino and Bill Kinkel off of injured reserve and placed Ian Forbes on IR to conclude the season.
