
Schell and Awe named to ECHL First team, Mifsud to Second team

The ECHL announced today that Gladiators forward Brad Schell and defenseman Jon Awe have been named to the ECHL First Team. In addition, forward Scott Mifsud was named to the ECHL Second Team.
Schell currently leads the ECHL in scoring with 110 points off of 25 goals and 85 assists in 63 games with the Gladiators. His 85 assists lead the league in that category. He set new Gladiators all time team records for points in a season, snapping the old record of 88 held by Jason Elders, and assists in a season, surpassing the old mark of 61 set by Jamie Ling.
The Scott, Saskatchewan native was named the ECHL Player of the Month for December as he notched 8 goals and 22 assists for 30 points. He also posted a career best 16 game point scoring streak from February 2nd through March 16th. Schell was named the captain of the American Conference Squad for the 2007 ECHL All Star game as he collected a goal to help the American Conference to a 6-3 win.
Schell is currently on recall to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League where he has appeared in 7 games this season posting a goal and two assists for 3 points.
Awe currently ranks second in scoring in the ECHL among defensemen with 25 goals and 30 assists for 55 points in 58 games this season. He leads ECHL defenseman in power play goals with 19, setting a new ECHL record for power play goals by a defenseman in one season. His 25 goals also ranks first in that category among defensemen.
The Memphis, Tennessee, native represented the Gladiators on the American Conference team in the 2007 ECHL All Star game. He set a new league record for hardest shot during the skills competition posting a 102.2 MPH slap shot.
Awe has split time this season in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins and the Chicago Wolves. He as collected a goal and 2 assists for 3 points in 7 AHL games this season.
Mifsud currently ranks second in scoring in the ECHL as he trails only teammate Brad Schell. Mifsud has collected 92 points off of 26 goals and 66 assists this year. He posted an ECHL season best 19 game point scoring streak for the Gladiators from January 5th through February 23rd.
The Burlington, Ontario native has registered 27 multiple point games for the Gladiators while registering four point nights on three difference occasions. Mifsud earned his first call up of his career to the AHL this season appearing in one game with the Worcester Sharks.
