Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors took a 2-0 first period lead but couldn't hold it and lost to the Idaho Steelheads, 4-3, Wednesday night, in front of 5,020 at Rabobank. With 203,124 fans having watched games in person at The Nest this season, the Condors have the second-highest cumulative attendance in team history behind the 1999-2000 season (215,201), passed the 200,000 mark in total attendance for the fifth time in team history, and increased attendance for the fourth consecutive year.
Bakersfield (41-16-12, 94 points) scored the first goal for the first time in nine games when Brett Lutes slammed in a rebound of Sean Venedam's shot at 11:35 of the first. The power-play goal was Lutes' team-leading 32nd of the season.
Less than two minutes later, Lutes lit the lamp again to push the advantage to 2-0. Off a face-off in the offensive zone, Kevin St. Jacques pushed the puck forward to Josh Liebenow, who went behind the net and then fed the puck to Lutes on the doorstep, and he one-timed it past Steve Silverthorn for his second of the night.
Idaho (40-24-6, 86 points) came back with a goal late in the session, when B.J. Crombeen's wrister from the right point eluded Jamie Hodson to cut the lead to 2-1 at 18:13.
The Condors restored the two-goal lead at 12:45 of the second, when Josh Liebenow slapped one past Silverthorn to push the margin back to two.
But the Steelheads got two late goals to tie the game before the second stanza ended, by Kory Scoran at 14:30 and Jay Beagle at 19:23.
Idaho scored the game-winner at 12:27 of the third, when John Lammers jammed one past Hodson to make it 4-3, and Silverthorn made it stand up.
Notes: Bakersfield is now 1-4-1 in the season series against Idaho, including 1-2-0 at home.
The Kelly Cup Trophy made a visit to Rabobank Arena and fans were able to view it and take pictures with the trophy awarded annually to the playoff champion of the ECHL.
