Dayton Bombers News Release

Cincinnati, OH- In the most dramatic game of the season with first place on the line the Bombers pulled off one for the ages in Cincinnati on Thursday night, overcoming a 2-1 deficit entering the third period to win 3-2 in regulation in front of 2,437 fans at U.S. Bank Arena.

The Cyclones jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over the Bombes when Barrett Ehgoetz finished off a goal mouth pass from defenseman Nick Martens and put it past Bombers starter Adam Berkhoel (36 saves, Win) at the 4:21 mark. The Bombers would answer back later in the first period on the power play when Captain Greg Labenski (5) one-timed a perfect shot from the point past Cyclones starter Cedrick Desjardins (23 saves, Loss) to tie the game at 1-1 at the 12:51 mark.

In the second period, the Bombers had a number of great scoring chances early to break the 1-1 tie, but Greg Labenski and Petr Pohl both had their shots hit off the post and just miss the net. Cyclones forward Travis Lisbeth then gave Cincinnati a 2-1 lead when he snuck a wide angled shot behind Berkhoel at the 5:48 mark. Although the Bombers generated 10 shots on goal in the period; they still could not solve Desjardins. They went to the third period down 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.

Near the beginning of the third period, the Cyclones tried to put the Bombers away for good, but Berkhoel showed why he was recently named to the ECHL's All First Team, as he continued to make big save after big save. At the 12:47 mark the Bombers tied the game at 2-2 on the power play when Mike Berry (19) made Desjardins pay for coming out of his crease to high and buried the puck into the far side of the net, while diving across the ice. Immediately following the completion of another power play, Justin Maiser (19) saw an opening on Desjardins and threw the puck towards the net, which proceeded to bounce off the back of his jersey and into the net to give the Bombers their first lead of the game at the 19:22 mark. The late goal by the Bombers sucked the wind right out of the sails of the Cyclones and let the Bombers steal the 3-2 road victory.

With the win, the Bombers now have a chance to clinch home ice throughout divisional play in the playoffs with a win in Toledo on Friday night at the Sports Arena (7:35 p.m.).

The Bombers return to the Nutter Center for the final home game in the 2006-07 regular season on Saturday, April 7, at 7:00 p.m. to take on their 16 year rivals, the Toledo Storm.
