Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City - The Utah Grizzlies will need a win when they face the Grand Rapids Griffins for the first of a two-game series tonight at the 'E' Center with a 7:05 pm (mst) face-off. Despite returning from an excellent road trip, the Grizzlies sit three points behind Cincinnati for the final playoff position.

Every win counts for Utah (24-38-6-5) who has played well against the Griffins this season. A win tonight would tie up the season series with Grand Rapids and give Utah critical momentum to overtake Cincinnati. The Grizzlies played with urgency last week to stay alive in the playoff picture going 2-1-2-0 on the road. However, Cincinnati didn't offer any help by gaining a victory over the Griffins on Wednesday.

The Griffins (41-22-8-0) have secured a playoff position but have struggled of late going 4-6-0-0 in their last ten games. Grand Rapids lost top-ten goaltender Marc Lamothe to a Detroit Red Wing call-up this week. However, the Griffins' have a second top-ten goaltender at their disposal. Joey MacDonald will bring his 1.83 GAA to the 'E' Center tonight.

The Grizzlies will meet the Griffins again Saturday night to complete the season series.
