3/26/2004 9:44:00 PM - Kris Beech led the way with two goals as the Penguins downed the BEARS 4-2 to end the ten game season series.
Beech got the scoring underway just 47 seconds in the first period when he was able to slide a puck underneath Phil Sauve to stake the Penguins to a 1-0 lead. Colby Armstrong got the only assist on the goal for Wilkes-Barre. The BEARS were outshot 8-7 in the first period as Andy Chiodo stopped all the shots he faced. After 223 penalty minutes between the two clubs on Sunday, there were just four minutes total assessed by referee Harry Dumas in the first period.
Wilkes-Barre would come out firing in the second with goals from Beech and Marquis Mathieu to build up a 3-0 lead. The BEARS would counter with a power play goal from Sheldon Keefe at the 17:12 mark of the second to get back within two goals. It was the 15th goal of the season for Keefe, but only the second away from GIANT Center in 2003-04. Shane Willis and Steve Brule picked up assists on the goal.
Shane Endicott would round out the scoring for the Penguins with a goal early in the third period, while Keefe scored his second of the game late in the third to round out the scoring.
The BEARS play host to the Manchester Monarchs on Saturday night at GIANT Center. Face-off is at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the GIANT Center box office or by calling (717) 534-3911.
