Crunch take 6-3 win over Senators

The Syracuse Crunch parlayed three first period goals in to a 6-3 win over the Binghamton Senators Friday night in front of 5,871 fans at the War Memorial at OnCenter.
The win allowed the Crunch to remain four points behind the North Division-leading Hamilton Bulldogs while the Sens fell five points back of third place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the East Division.
Brad Moran opened the scoring just twenty one seconds into the game with a right wing bullet that beat Ray Emery (18 saves) on the stick side giving the Crunch a 1-0 lead.
Working their first power play, Kent McDonell put his own rebound past Emery for a 2-0 advantage at the 12:40 mark.
The Crunch capped off the first period onslaught when Donald MacLean saw his shot hit the pad of Emery, jump into the air and go over his shoulder and in at 17:30 to make it 3-0 on the power play.
Syracuse moved out to its largest lead of the night 3:51 into the second period as Joe Motzko shoved home a rebound to bump the Crunch lead to 4-0.
Julien Vauclair single handedly cut the lead in half with a pair of second period strikes, his seventh and eighth goal of the year, for the second two-goal game of his career.
Trailing 4-2 heading into the final period, Steve Bancroft narrowed the gap to one when he ripped a blast from the left circle over the glove hand of Pascal Leclaire (31 saves) at 1:28.
Despite a 13-5 shot advantage in the third, the Sens wouldn't beat Leclaire again and the Crunch salted the game away with a pair of goals for the final margin.
The loss left Binghamton tied with Norfolk, 5-3 losers to Manchester, in fourth place with 73 points and one point up on sixth place Hershey (4-2 losers to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton).
The Sens return home for a Saturday night match-up with the first place Philadelphia Phantoms in a 7:05 faceoff at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
