Bridgeport Islanders News Release
PHILEDALPHIA, PA - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have announced the recall of Goaltender Wade Dubielewicz by the big club.
Dubielewicz joined the Islanders prior to Thursday's road game versus the Philadelphia Flyers and made his NHL debut at the start of the second period when he replaced Garth Snow, who left the game with a groin injury. The AHL's December Rookie of the Month and Starting Goaltender for the Canadian All-Star Team at the League's All-Star Classic in February went on to stop all 14 shots he faced and earn the second star of the game winning his NHL debut as the Islanders rallied for a 4-2 victory.
Dubielewicz entered the game with the teams tied at 2-2 after they traded goals twice in the first period; Adrian Aucoin notched both Islanders' goals. Mark Parrish then gave the big club its first lead at 3-2 in the early in the middle period, and Janne Niinimaa doubled the advantage to 4-2 with a third-period power-play goal just after the Islanders killed 1:52 of a five-on-three Philadelphia advantage. Former Sound Tigers Trent Hunter and Mattias Weinandl also notched assists on Aucoin's first goal and Niinimaa's insurance marker respectively.
The Sound Tigers will play the final three games of seven straight on the road when they visit the Philadelphia Phantoms Friday at 7:05 p.m. and the Norfolk Admirals Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m. All three games will be web cast live at www.soundtigers.com. Friday and Sunday's game will also be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM, but Saturday's game is subject to pre-emption on WICC by University of Connecticut basketball.
Hunter and Dubielewicz, in the first intermission, and Islanders Head Coach Steve Stirling, in the second intermission, will be featured interviewees during Friday's broadcast.
The Sound Tigers' next home game will be this coming Wednesday, March the 31st when they host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 7:05 p.m.
Sound Tigers individual-game tickets are on sale at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard box office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and on all game days, as well as on-line at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling Ticketmaster at 203-368-1000.
