Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI --
The Providence Bruins and Lowell Lock Monsters played the ninth game of their 10-game season series on Friday night at Tsongas Arena, with Lowell taking a 2-1 overtime decision. The Lock Monsters scored the winning goal on a power play with 1.9 seconds remaining on the clock. The goal came after Bruin winger Andy Hilbert was stopped on a penalty shot by Lowell goaltender Patrick DesRochers at 1:21 of the overtime. The Bruins remain in fourth place in the Atlantic Division with their 32-24-10-4 (78 points), one point behind the Worcester IceCats.
Bruin captain Rich Brennan scored his team's goal, on his ninth of the year in the second period. Center Andre Savage drew the only assist on the play.
Bruin goaltender Tim Thomas stopped 27 of the 29 shots he faced, and is 16-13-5 on the season.
Hilbert's penalty shot was the Bruins' fourth this season, the most in franchise history. The Bruins have scored on one penalty shot attempt this season, with Matt Herr beating DesRochers in Lowell on December 13. The Bruins are 7-18 in franchise history on penalty shot attempts.
