Hershey Bears News Release
The Calder Cup, the coveted prize of every team in the American Hockey League (AHL), will visit GIANT CenterSM on Saturday, March 27, when the HERSHEY BEARS® take on the Manchester Monarchs at 7 p.m. The Calder Cup will be displayed behind section 116.
The Calder Cup 2004 Tour offers fans the opportunity to view up close one of the oldest trophies in North American sports. The Calder Cup, which has been competed for since the 1936-37 season, features the names of players, coaches, and support staff from the last 20 American Hockey League champions, and is accompanied by a special display highlighting the intensity and excitement of the Calder Cup playoffs.
Also while in Hershey, the Calder Cup will visit the Penn State Children's Hospital at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5. To attend, please contact Amy Buehler Stranges, Public Relations Coordinator at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center by Friday, April 4 at 2 p.m. at 717-531-8606. If attending, please report to the main information desk in the lobby.
The AHL's championship trophy is named after Hockey Hall of Famer Frank Calder, who served as the first president of the National Hockey League from 1917-43. During the 1920s, Calder was instrumental in guiding professional hockey into the mainstream of the United States' major cities, including New York, Boston, Chicago and Detroit, while also helping in the formation of the AHL.
The BEARS finish off the regular season Easter weekend with games on Saturday, April 10 against the Norfolk Admirals at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 11 at 5 p.m. against the Philadelphia Phantoms. For more information or to purchase tickets, please contact the GIANT Center Box Office at 717-534-3911.
