Gladiators Playoff March Update 1

March 3, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The Gladiators have 16 regular season games remaining with a possible 32 points on the line.

Gwinnett dropped into 10th place in the American Conference last night after Reading's win over Trenton but remain just two points out of a tie for the 8th and final playoff spot.

The top team in each of the three divisions of the American Conference qualify for the playoffs, along with the next five best teams by point total.

Gwinnett plays three highly important games in three days at Florida this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The Gladiators play 14 of their final 16 regular season games against teams currently in a playoff position.

The Gladiators can move into playoff contention this weekend by winning all three games at Florida or by earning at least three points against Florida and having Reading and Wheeling each lose both of their weekend games.

Currently, 93 points will guarantee a playoff spot, as Reading, who rests in the 8th and final playoff spot, can only amass a possible 92.

As of Wednesday afternoon, March 3rd, just three points separate the four teams occupying the eighth through eleventh positions in the American Conference standings.

The Johnstown Chiefs, currently in last place in the American Conference with 38 points, are just five regulation losses away from being mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.
