Forney Reassigned To AHL Chicago

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that forward Michael Forney has been reassigned to their American Hockey League affiliate Chicago Wolves. Forney, a 21-year-old Thief River Falls, Minnesota native, returns to the AHL for the second time after appearing in two games with the Wolves last week, where he went scoreless and finished with a -1 plus/minus rating.
Forney has appeared in 50 games with the Gladiators this season, recording 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points and 40 penalty minutes. A 6-foot-2, 185-pound rookie, Forney was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the third round with the 80th overall pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
Forney registered 60 points in 59 junior games last season with the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League. He led the team in all offensive categories (goals, assists, points) and ranked ninth in the league in overall scoring. He also appeared in 19 games over two seasons with the University of North Dakota from 2006-07 to 2007-08, recording two assists. He will be available for this morning's game at the Kalamazoo Wings.
The Gladiators continue their 7th season in the ECHL Thursday, March 4th @ Florida at 7:30 p.m. The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and Columbus Blue Jackets and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
