Bendfeld Recalled, Boston Acquires Cody Wild

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League and Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, announced Springfield has recalled defenseman Jordan Bendfeld.

Additionally, general manager Steve Tambellini announced Edmonton acquired forward Matt Marquardt from the Boston Bruins in exchange for defenseman Cody Wild.

Bendfeld, 22, earns the first AHL recall of his career and was selected in the seventh round (193rd overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by Edmonton and this season. He has skated in 52 games for Stockton this season, collecting ten assists and 91 penalty minutes.

Through 69 career games with the Thunder, the 6-foot-3, 230-pound defenseman has scored one goal, 12 assists and posted 116 penalty minutes through two seasons (2008-10).

Wild, 22, was selected by Edmonton in the fifth round (140th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft and has tallied 14 assists and 24 penalty minutes from the blueline in 37 games this season with Springfield. He added one assist and four penalty minutes in four games with the Thunder prior his recall to Edmonton and acquisition by Boston.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound defenseman scored a goal and added two assists in six games for the Thunder last season and in 109 career AHL games, spanning three seasons (2007-10), he has scored 35 points (5g-30a) and posted 74 penalty minutes.

Marquardt, 22, has appeared in 42 games with the Providence Bruins of the AHL this season recording one goal and nine assists.

Last season the 6-foot-3, 229-pound left winger played in 71 games with Providence and had 22 points (9g-13a). He played junior hockey with the Moncton Wildcats and Baie-Comeau Drakkar of the QMJHL collecting 164 points in 203 games.

Marquardt was originally drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the seventh round (194th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

A two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," the Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine, has led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew 223,854 fans to Stockton Arena in 2008-09.
