
Gladiators drop 5-4 OT decision to Pride

Two third period goals by Cam Brown was not enough to help the Gladiators past the Florence Pride on Thursday night in a 5-4 overtime loss at the Florence Civic Center.
Scott Balan scored the game winner as he defenseman was able to jam a puck in overtime past Gladiators netminder Trevor Prior at the 3:58 mark of the overtime session. Wes Goldie added an assist on the game-winning goal for Florence.
Florence jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Jeff Szwez flipped a back-hand shot past Gladiators netminder Trevor Prior. Kyle Kidney added an assist on the goal at 2:59 of the opening period.
Kevin Doell added his 33 goal of the season for the Gladiators 62 seconds later to tie the contest up at a goal apiece. Wes Swinson slid in from his point position and ripped a shot that Doell deflected to add an assist on the tally.
Gwinnett took a 2-1 lead midway through the opening stanza as Steve Slonina slid the puck past Laplante from the slot. Evan Nielsen added an assist on the goal at 10:35 of the period.
Florence tied the game at two when Kidney was able to redirect a Ryan Knox slap shot past Trevor Prior on the power play. Kidney's goal came at 12:49 of the opening period.
The Pride jumped out to a 3-2 lead when Shaun Sutter dug the puck out from underneath Prior and jammed the puck past the netminder for the goal. Luke Earl and Allan Sirois added the assists on the marker at 4:37 of the second.
Kyle Kidney capitalized on a misplayed clearing attempt in front of Prior and slid the puck past the netminder to extend the Florence lead to two goal. Kidney's shorthanded unassisted goal came at 6:06 of the second period.
Cam Brown cut the lead back to one goal when he took an outlet pass from Brandon Dietrich coming out of the penalty box. The Gladiators captain was able to beat Laplante on a back-hand shot through the netminder's legs at 11:46 of the second.
Brown added his second of the night and his 20th of the season with 1:35 remaining in the second period as he was able to rip a snapshot past Laplante on the power play from the slot to tie the game at four goal apiece. Kevin Doell added an assist on the goal for the Gladiators.
Trevor Prior made 27 saves in the overtime loss for the Gladiators who fall to 40-22-8 on the season.
