April 1, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. â Jean-Francois' first goal of the season early in the third period broke a tie score and led to a 3-1 win for the Bakersfield Condors over the Idaho Steelheads in front of 3,710 fans at Centennial Garden on Wednesday night.
Idaho took the lead late in the first period with a power play tally at 16:23 to make it 1-0. Dan Vandermeer redirected a shot from the right point for his seventh of the season. The first period was chippy, including nine penalties and 24 minutes in infractions. The score stayed 1-0 for over 20 minutes.
With less than two minutes remaining in the second period, the Condors tied the game. A centering feed from Paul Rosebush deflected off Todd Alexander and into the net for his 11th of the season at 18:12, leaving the scoring tied at 1-1 after 40 minutes.
In the third period, the Condors power play came alive. After going 0-for-5 through the first two periods, the Condors scored twice on their first three power plays of the final stanza to take the lead for good. Piche's shot from the bottom of the left circle squeezed through Idaho goalie Scott Kabutoff's pads to make it 2-1. Quinn Fair added a power play goal with 4:29 remaining to make it 3-1, and give the Condors their third straight win.
Bakersfield wraps up the season with two games this weekend, both at 7:00pm. Friday's game against San Diego features Condors nesting doll giveaway for the first 2,000 fans, sponsored by Groove 99.3, A-plus Plumbing, Heating and Air, 3-Way Chevrolet and Oreck.
