
Mississippi dials up the 'Catters, 5-3

Beaumont, TX (April 1, 2004) â Mississippi came from behind twice to tie the game and went on to win the final game of the Nextel Cup, 5-3. Tony Lawrence opened up the scoring for the Wildcatters at the 14:56 mark of the opening period as he took a centering feed from Warren Toews to tally his 16th goal of the season. Ryan Fultz also assisted on the goal. Mississippi struck back three minutes later as Louis Dumont recorded his team-leading 33rd goal of the year. Davis Parley turned away 13 of the 14 shots he faced in the first period for the Wildcatters.
Cory Morgan gave Texas the lead at the 3:45 mark of the middle stanza as he took a pass from Lukas Smital and recorded his 21st goal of the year. The goal tied Morgan with John Snowden and Martin Masa for the Wildcatters leading scorer. The lead did not last long however as Dwayne Blais scored his 13th goal of the year. Two minutes later, Travis Lisabeth gave the Sea Wolves their first lead of the game with his 18th goal of the season. Mississippi added to their lead at the 12:26 mark of the same period as Steffon Walby took a centering feed from Andrew Proskurnicki for his 32nd goal of the year.
Mississippi bad boy Roger Maxwell increased the lead to three early in the third period as he scored his sixth goal of the season from Lucas Drake and Dwayne Blais. Snowden took over the team lead in goals with 18 seconds left in the game, netting his 22nd goal of the season from Fultz and Masa. Parley suffered the loss, finishing with 43 saves. Sean Matile won his 14th game of the year as he turned away 29 of the 32 shots he faced.
