
Mississippi Announces Top Players In March

BILOXI, Miss. â Mississippi Sea Wolves Professional Hockey announced today that right wing Steffon Walby has been named the organization's Player of the Month for March, left wing Lucas Drake is the Rookie of the Month, while Greg Gardner takes the Goaltender of the Month honors.
The Sea Wolves finished with their best-ever record in a single month, going 10-1-1 in March, for a .875 winning percentage.
Walby, 31, collected points in 11 of 12 games in the month of March, finishing with eight goals including three power-play markers, 18 points and a +10. Overall this season, the 6-foot and 200-pound Walby leads the Sea Wolves with 55 assists and 87 points. Walby is also tied for the team lead with 32 goals, 11 power-play goals and three shorthand assists.
Drake, 24, joined Mississippi on March 19 after completing four years at Western Michigan. The 5-foot-10 and 185-pound Drake collected one assist last month. The native of Holt, Michigan appeared in six games during March and the Sea Wolves won each of the their contests.
Gardner, 28, posted a 9-1-0 record over 10 games during March. The 6-foot and 190-pound Gardner compiled a 1.69 goals against average and .949 save percentage. He registered his 30th win of season on March 30 at Columbus, making 30 saves to become just the second goaltender in ECHL history to post consecutive 30-win seasons, joining Nick Vitucci (1994-96), Mississippi's 4-3 shootout victory. Gardner was named ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week for March 15-21, by going 3-0-0, with a 1.95 goals against average and .942 save percentage. Gardner also became Mississippi's all-time career goaltending wins leader by earning his 59th victory, surpassing Chuck Thuss on March 21 at Texas, making 37 saves in the Sea Wolves 3-2 win. Overall this season, the native of Mississauga, Ontario has compiled a 30-13-3 record, 2.44 goals against average and .924 save percentage.

The Sea Wolves wrap up their regular season with two home games at 7:35 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. The Sea Wolves host the Pensacola Ice Pilots tomorrow with the game promotion consisting of 2-for-1 military, sponsored by Keesler Federal Credit Union. On Saturday, Mississippi hosts the Louisiana IceGators. The Sea Wolves will be wearing special Southern Miss jerseys, which will be auctioned postgame to benefit the Southern Miss Alumni Scholarship Fund.
