Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release

Lafayette, LA – The ECHL announced today that two Louisiana IceGators, defenseman Ben Storey and goaltender Derek Gustafson, were named to the All-ECHL Team. The league's head coaches vote on the players selected for the All-ECHL Team. Storey, in his fifth professional season, was named to the All-ECHL First Team. Gustafson was selected for the All-ECHL Second Team.

Storey ranks third on the IceGators with 56 points (18g –38a) in 61 games. He started the 2004 ECHL All Star Game for the Western Conference and won the hardest shot competition with a blaster that topped 96 mph. Storey is tied for the ECHL lead with 39 power play points (14g – 25a), and his 18 goals tie him for the league lead among defensemen. He is the first Louisiana defenseman since Chris Valicevic in 1999-2000 and only the second in team history to be named to the All-ECHL First Team. The 6-2, 210-pound Storey is under contract and currently on a call-up to Houston of the AHL where he has scored two points in seven games.

Derek Gustafson becomes the second Louisiana goaltender to be named to the All-ECHL Team, joining Frederic Cloutier who was named as a rookie in 2001-02. The 5-11 and 185-pound Gustafson is 27-13-0 with a goals against average of 2.04 and a save percentage of .928. He is tied for the league lead with five shutouts while ranking second in goals against average and tied for fourth in save percentage. His current goals against average would rank fourth in the league record book for the lowest goals against average.

"Ben has proven all year that he is a top defenseman in this league. Being named a starter for the All-Star Game is an example of the player he has been for us. He is a key element to our defensive unit and of course on the power play and a big reason why it is top ranked in the league," said IceGators Head Coach Dave Farrish. "Derek has been a huge reason for our success in the 2nd half of the season and a big part of why we are in 1st place. Gus brings a world of experience and talent to the club every time he steps in the net."

The IceGators play their final home game tonight against the Pensacola Ice Pilots at 7:05 p.m. Bring your business card to the Cajundome box office for $2 off any ticket. The final game of the regular season is Saturday, April 3 when the IceGators travel to Biloxi to face the Mississippi Sea Wolves.

The IceGators have set Wednesday, April 7 and Thursday, April 8 as the dates for their first two games of the 2004 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Playoff Packages and individual playoff game tickets are now available. Please call the IceGators office at 337-234-4423 for more information.
