Tri-City Americans News Release

The Tri-City Americans suffered a 3-2 overtime loss tonight to the Vancouver Giants.

16-year-old forward Jordan Gavin opened scoring 13:47 into the game as he cleaned up a loose puck in front of the next with a backhand shot over the glove of Giants goaltender Jesper Vikman.

The Ams held their 1-0 lead into the second period after outshooting Vancouver 18-2 in the first period.

Chase Friedt-Mohr took a hooking penalty early into the second frame, putting the Ams on the penalty kill. Jalen Luypen scored shorthanded for Tri-City as set himself up for a breakaway. The Chicago Blackhawks prospect was able to toe drag across the slot around Giants defenseman Mazden Leslie and put home a wrist shot over the left shoulder of Vikman.

Tri-City's luck started to change with five minutes remaining in the period as Cameron Schmidt got Vancouver on the board and put them within one of the Americans. The Ams outshot the Giants 8-5 in the second frame.

Ty Halaburda scored the third period's lone goal, tying the game for Vancouver.

Despite outshooting Vancouver 37-16, Vikman held strong for the Giants and the Americans weren't able to find another goal.

Brenden Pentecost netted the game-winning overtime goal just 20 seconds into the extra frame.

It was Tri-City's first loss at the Toyota Center since they fell to Kamloops on November 23rd.

Jackson Smith, the second-overall pick in the 2022 WHL Prospect Draft, made his debut with the Americans.
