Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
PRINCE ALBERT S.K. - The Brandon Wheat Kings suffer their first loss of 2023 at the hands of the Prince Albert Raiders by a score of 6-2.
It was a wild start to the game with the Raiders scoring only a couple minutes into the game. Former Winnipeg Ice forward Aidan Oiring would collect a rebound to beat Nick Jones on the powerplay to make it 1-0 Raiders. Nate Danielson would tally his 20th of the year with a shot off the right circle to tie it up with over 11 minutes remaining but then the turning point of the hockey game came moments later. Forward Brett Hyland dropped the glove with Raiders forward Sloan Stanick forcing Brett Hyland to leave to the dressing room, then Matt Henry dropped the gloves with Grady Martin forcing Henry to leave the game which Henry would later return in. The shuffling of the forward lines was taken advantage off by the Raiders scoring a pair of goals in the final 6 minutes of the period. Aidan Oiring would setup blue liner Justice Christiansen for his 1st of the year and then Eric Johnston would setup Evan Herman for his 7th of the year to make it 3-1 Raiders heading into the second period.
Nolan Ritchie would get the Wheat Kings within one goal after a 4 on 3 powerplay goal making it 3-2 Raiders, but the Raiders would storm back again. While on another powerplay, veteran forward Sloan Stanick would fire a left side circle shot past Nick Jones to restore the two-goal lead.
In the third period things became even more unglued with the Wheat Kings taking even more penalties allowing the Raiders to add another pair. Stanick would score his 2nd of the night off a delayed penalty to make it 5-2, then Niall Crocker would put a bow on the game with only two minutes remaining to make it 6-2 Raiders.
