NEWS & NOTES:
Last Game: The Wheat Kings shocked everyone in the country defeating the Portland Winterhawks 3-2 in Westoba Place. The Winterhawks came into the game ranked #4 in the CHL and have not lost to the Brandon Wheat Kings since October 2014. Nate Danielson led the way with one goal and two assists earning first star honours, Quinn Mantei scored his first of the season which turned out to be the game winning goal and goaltender Carson Bjarnason stopped 34 of 36 shots giving him his 14th win of the season.
Jan 7th @ Prince Albert Raiders: The Wheat Kings return to Prince Albert in what will be a very quick turnaround. The Raiders are coming off a big win Friday night over the Red Deer Rebels in regulation. The Wheat Kings are 2-0 versus the Raiders this season but both games almost got away from the Raiders who grinded their way back into each matchup in the 3rd period. The Wheat Kings managed to win both games by scores of 5-4 in Brandon (Dec 2nd) & 4-3 in Prince Albert (Dec 7th). Both of those games the Wheat Kings had multi goal leads but failed to skate off with easy victories. The Raiders would score a pair of goals in the third periods in both games but would fail to force overtime. The Raiders have shown to other clubs outside of the Wheat Kings that no lead is safe, a good example is Friday December 30th when the Regina Pats failed to hold their 3-0 lead allowing the Raiders to come back and force overtime.
Who's Hot: Brett Hyland currently has 14 goals scored in his last 12 games. Forward Nate Danielson has been stellar as of late scoring 32 points in his last 20 games. Nolan Ritchie has 22 points in his last 16 games. Calder Anderson has 16 points in his last 10 games.
NOTABLE INDIVIDUAL PLAYER STATS
Nate Danielson: Tied for 3rd in the League Lead with (3) Shorthanded Goals
Carson Bjarnason: 3rd the WHL with total saves (793)
Matthew Henry: 1st in the WHL with 84 PIMS
